Human Rights Defenders Lead

Job Overview

We’re looking for a Human Rights Defenders (HRD) Lead to join the Fedi Order — our global movement to empower communities everywhere with Freedom Technologies.

The ideal candidate will come from the human rights or activist ecosystem, with deep trust and strong connections among advocates  and digital freedom movements.

You will own the HRD go-to-market and product-market fit vertical. Your mandate is to make strategies related to HRD succeed. This will involve identifying, winning, deploying, and activating HRD organizations onto Fedi – and keeping them successful. You will be the Directly Responsible individual (DRI) for targets in this vertical, coordinating execution on the ground and pushing Product/Engineering to remove blockers promptly.

This role requires both strategic vision and grassroots understanding — someone who can operate globally while staying close to the people and causes that matter most.

You should have at least 6 years of experience in senior community or advocacy leadership, with 3–4 years specifically in the human rights, digital rights, or social justice sector.

Key Responsibilities

Own HRD Targets

• Set and deliver quarterly OKRs, plans, reports, and budgets for HRD, including building and continuously refreshing a pipeline of HRDs.

Drive cross-functional execution

• Work with Product/Engineering to define requirements, prioritise issues, and push for time-bound resolutions.
• Coordinate with On & Off Ramps Lead where needed for specific regions.
• Collaborate with regional Masters to connect HRDs with humanitarian and activist initiatives worldwide.

Community Growth Strategy

• Develop and execute strategies that help Human Rights Defenders and organizations adopt Fedi and Fedimint as privacy-preserving community tools.

Partnership & Opportunity Development

• Identify and build partnerships with NGOs, advocacy groups, digital rights collectives, and humanitarian networks aligned with Fedi’s mission.

Implementation Models

• Design scalable, replicable models that human rights organizations can use to protect data, manage community funds, and strengthen resilience.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Serve as the primary link between Fedi and the human rights community — facilitating collaboration, providing feedback, and ensuring alignment with Fedi’s values.

Communication & Advocacy

• Act as a public voice for Fedi among human rights networks — in conferences, interviews, and forums focused on freedom tech, privacy, and grassroots innovation.

Requirements

• Minimum 6 years of experience in senior community, advocacy, or marketing roles including project/programme delivery.
• At least 3–4 years working directly in the human rights, digital rights, or activist ecosystem.
• Track record of being the DRI for outcomes (targets/OKRs), with multi-stakeholder orchestration.
• Strong global or regional network within advocacy circles.
• Demonstrated experience building teams, designing strategy, and leading community projects.
• Understanding of Bitcoin, privacy, and freedom technologies and their value to Human Right Defenders and civil society.
• Excellent communication skills in English (additional languages are a plus).
• Comfortable representing programs publicly when needed.
• Ability to work autonomously, travel frequently, and represent Fedi’s mission with authenticity and care.
