About Fedi

SateNet is Fedi’s initiative to bring low-cost, reliable internet access to rural users in Kenya, powered and paid for using the Fedi app. It represents one of Fedi’s most important real-world implementations: using Bitcoin and federated technology to make connectivity community-owned, affordable, and sustainable.

Your mission is to own SateNet end‑to‑end. First, make the initial SateNet site operational, sustainable, and widely used — ensuring users can reliably access and pay for the internet through the Fedi app. Then, turn that success into a repeatable, systemised model that can be replicated across other communities. You’ll serve as the field-to-product control loop — diagnosing issues, coordinating fixes across Product and Engineering, and orchestrating Communities on the ground. Once stable, you’ll productionise the model, oversee replication, and support the CEO in transitioning SateNet towards having independent governance and funding.

You balance hands-on field leadership with rigorous program management. You’re comfortable in low‑infrastructure environments, eager to learn the realities of last‑mile connectivity (mesh/satellite/relay, power, placement, uptime), and relentless about outcomes.

Role Overview

At Fedi, our mission is simple but bold: to empower humanity with freedom technology. We build on Bitcoin, Lightning, and Fedimint to help communities secure and use their money and data.

We’re hiring an Ecosystem Solutions Engineer to build applications, tools, and integrations that demonstrate what’s possible with Fedimint and the Fedi platform—and to help a growing community of external developers do the same. You’ll be the bridge between engineering, product, and the broader builder ecosystem, splitting your time between hands-on development and developer enablement.

This is a high-agency, builder-operator role. You’ll build tools, mini apps, and integrations that expand the Fedi ecosystem. You’ll also be the face of Fedi’s developer community—leading workshops and webinars, supporting developers, and representing Fedi at events.

You will spend your first 1–2 months working closely with our engineers to understand the freedom technology stack in depth. From there, you’ll operate with high autonomy, taking ideas from concept to shipped.

We expect you to move fast. That means you should already be proficient with modern AI-assisted development tools and comfortable using them to ship real-world solutions at startup speed.

Responsibilities

  • Ecosystem Development: Build and ship lightweight apps, mini apps, dashboards, and integrations that expand the Fedi ecosystem. Create and maintain rich documentation featuring integration tutorials, platform support, & any other information that may be helpful to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Developer Experience & Advocacy: Support third-party developers with tools, examples, and technical guidance. Represent Fedi through demos, technical walkthroughs, and speaking engagements.
  • AI-Driven Development: Use AI tools daily to accelerate development, prototyping, and problem-solving.
  • Partner Solutions: Work with external partners to prototype and deliver integrations, demos, and proof-of-concepts.
  • Force Multiplier: Take ownership of ecosystem and integration work, freeing the core engineering team to focus on the product roadmap.
  • Rapid Prototyping: Turn ambiguous ideas into working solutions quickly, with a strong bias toward action.

Requirements

  • Experience building and shipping full-stack applications, with familiarity across frontend frameworks (e.g., React), backend services, and APIs.
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript and at least working proficiency in Rust (or strong willingness to learn Rust).
  • Demonstrated proficiency with modern AI-assisted development tools and agentic engineering workflows—not just casual usage, but integrated into your daily development practice.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences—in writing, on video, and in person.
  • Comfort and enthusiasm for public-facing work: presenting at events, leading workshops, creating content, and engaging with developer communities.
  • Self-directed and autonomous—able to identify what needs building, prioritise effectively, and ship without heavy oversight.
  • Excellent written and verbal English proficiency.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fully remote, globally distributed team.
  • Timezone overlap preferred: Africa/Europe ↔ US West Coast.

Nice to haves

  • Familiarity with Bitcoin, Lightning Network, or Fedimint.
  • Experience with developer relations, developer advocacy, or technical evangelism—formally or informally (e.g., open-source projects, technical blog, conference talks).
  • Previous experience building developer tools, SDKs, or platforms.
  • Experience working at an early-stage startup where you wore multiple hats.
  • Contributions to open-source projects.
  • Experience building mobile applications with React Native.
  • Knowledge of distributed systems, consensus protocols, and cryptographic primitives.
  • Nix/NixOS experience for reproducible build environments.

Note: When applying, please include examples of applications or tools you’ve built, any developer-facing content you’ve created (docs, blog posts, talks, videos), and any projects related to Bitcoin, Lightning, or Fedimint that you have been involved in.
