Senior Accountant
Job Overview
The Senior Accountant position plays a lead role in all accounting functions for Unchained. You will be primarily responsible for the month-end close cycle, payroll journal entries, account reconciliations, inter-company transactions, COGs and general expenses. In addition, you will be responsible for expense analysis, the fulfillment of annual audit requests, and other accounting support and ad hoc requests as assigned.
As the Senior Accountant, you will report to the Controller, and will be responsible for ensuring proper accounting in accordance with financial regulations and reporting requirements. This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but will act as a mentor to other junior accounting staff.
As Senior Accountant, you will support general accounting operations and our financial transactions. As the organization is growing and our lines of business are increasing, this role will play a critical part in the future success of Unchained.
What You Will Do
- The Senior Accountant will be responsible for assisting the Controller with daily, weekly and monthly procedures, with a strong emphasis on maintaining the completeness and accuracy of the general ledger.
- Ownership of the proper recording of payroll, inter-company, COGs and general ledger transactions
- Prepare monthly journal entries including accruals, adjusting and reclassification entries
- Prepare accounts reconciliations and analyze and explain fluctuations and variances
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly, including inter-company balances
- Record journal entries as necessary
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements including inter-company consolidations, eliminations and supporting schedules.
- Help oversee and ensure an accurate and timely month-end close process
- Prepare financial reports and various accounting statements and assist in annual financial reviews
- Provide recommendations to management regarding improvements to processes, productivity, internal controls, and accuracy
- Support financial audits, SOC I & II, and tax audits and the preparation of tax returns
- Enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles
- Ensure that accounting procedures comply with GAAP requirements
- Assist in various ad-hoc projects and analyses
- Perform other reasonably related duties as may be assigned.
Who You Are
- You live in the United States
- You have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- You have a minimum of 3 years of experience in an Accounting position
- You are proficient in NetSuite accounting software
- You have in-depth experience with financial statement close process, accruals, and intercompany consolidations.
- You have knowledge of common accounting practices and procedures (ex. month-end close), including solid understanding of GAAP
- You have knowledge of revenue accounting under ASC 606 and lease accounting under ASC 842/IFRS 16.
- You have the ability to think analytically and make sound judgments from analysis.
- You have the ability to perform detailed accounting duties with completeness and accuracy.
- You are able to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and meet tight deadlines.
- You are skilled in effective organization and ability to organize daily, monthly, yearly tasks and projects.
- You are able to communicate and work effectively in a team environment with all levels of staff and management.
- You are a self starter and motivated to bring positive energy into the role
- You are comfortable working with Google Suite and Microsoft Office with proficiency in Microsoft Excel

- You have a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation
- You have experience with Stripe
- You have Big Four public accounting experience
- You have an advanced degree
- You have experience working in FinTech and/or a startup environment
- You have basic knowledge of bitcoin, digital assets and blockchain with a demonstrated passion and commitment to learning more
- You have experience with credit products (loans) and SaaS products
